Today you will be picked up by Caribbean Tours in your hotel in Santo Domingo and driven to the bus station, where you will receive a short briefing about your trip.
With a comfortable public bus your trip goes along the coast road. After Bani, the road leads into the mountains, through a dry and rocky, littered with cactus and agave area. After a while, you will reach the provincial capital Barahona, located on the bay of Neiba. Our driver will be waiting for you at the bus station and take you to your hotel. Your base for the next days.

Over the next two days, you'll get to know the region around Barahona in the southwest of the country. Depending on the day of the week that the customers leave Santo Domingo, another combination of day trip in Barahona will be possible.

Today, you will discover the eastern part of the national park Sierra Bahoruco and the cloud forest in the mountain village Cachote. A four-wheel-drive will take you up to a scenic outpost, from where youll have a wonderful view over the beaches of Paraiso and the river Nizaito. On the way, you will visit several different agricultural plantations for coffee, cocoa and tropical fruits. Afterwards a short walk to the village Cachote on which you will get some insights regarding the vegetation. In Cachote you can meet the local people who still live the traditional way without electricity and light. During the return journey and through the rainforest of Paraiso you pass the village of Villa Nizao, which is located in a fertile valley. Here you have the opportunity to swim in a river, which is also a popular playground for local children.
The area around the Lago Enriquillo is one of the countrys most beautiful regions. The lake lies almost 40m below sea level. The region is hot and dry, but partially also very fruitful thanks to some springs and small rivers. Several important former Taíno colonies have been discovered in the desert-like surroundings of the salt-encrusted lake. It is refuge for crocodiles as well as rare rhinoceros-iguanas. With a little luck you will encounter one of these impressive animals. On the Way back, you will have the opportunity to take a dip in the natural swimming basins of Neyba before driving back to your hotel.
Drive along a spectacular coastal road to Bahoruco. From there, you will drive up the mountains to the only Larimar mine in the world. The stone was discovered in 1974. The stone is scratch resistant and easy to polish. Chains, earrings and rings are made from it. In the mine, you have the opportunity to talk to the miners and can also see the hard work they do inside the mine. On the way towards San Rafael lunch will be served in a private home situated directly on the river with a natural swimming basin and waterfalls. The rocky beaches of the Barahona Peninsula are breathtaking and true wonders of nature. Before heading back to your hotel, you will visit a Larimar shop where you will not only see how the stone is processed but also have the chance to process your own.
Drive along the scenic coastal road with fantastic views via San Rafael in the direction of Los Patos. During the trip you will always have opportunities for a photo stop. The drive continues to Enriquillo, a small fishing village where time seems to have stopped - everything is very leisurely here. In Oviedo you reach the Laguna de Oviedo, a sweet-salt water lagoon, which is separated from the sea only by a narrow strip of land. Discover a dry, almost desert-like vegetation and marvel at many different large birds, such as herons, spoonbills and ducks. The Laguna de Oviedo has a total of 22 islands, which are very different in size. Here you have a unique opportunity to observe iguanas. A short hike takes you across the small island, through a sparse and cactus-populated vegetation, to an observation tower. From here you have a fantastic view over the lagoon and the Jaragua National Park, the Caribbean Sea and the mountains of the Sierra de Bahoruco. On the subsequent boat trip, you will approach the largest flamingo colony in the Dominican Republic. Enjoy the experience when a whole flamingo swarm passes by! The journey leads back to Barahona and in Los Patos refreshing rivers and the pebble beach invite you to swim.
Drive along a beautiful route with breathtaking views of the small port and fishing village Cabo Rojo. In Las Cuevas you will board a boat that will take you on a 15-minute ride through the calm sea to one of the most beautiful natural beaches of the world. The beach of the Bahía de las Aguilas (eagle bay) is located in a national park and its sand is absolutely pristine and pure white. The bay is over 8 km long. Experience an exceptional coastal landscape with crystal clear water in shades from turquoise to opal-blue that melts into the horizon. Enjoy lunch on the beach, go swimming or snorkeling and explore this untouched ecological and natural paradise.
After breakfast you will be driven to the bus station, where you will take the bus back to Santo Domingo.
