  • Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to the historic center of Santo Domingo. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to get to know a little bit of the oldest city in the “New World”.

Activities:
  • Today, you will get to know America’s first European city. Here, the first cathedral of the New World was built, the first governor resided, the first bishop was ordained and the first hospital was opened. The lively mega-city offers an incommensurate array of cultural and architectural sights unlike anywhere else on Hispaniola. You will visit the “Zona Colonial”, the historical city center that was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. During the walking tour, you will see the palace of Diego Columbus, the palace of the governor, the cathedral and the “Parque de Colón” with its bronze monument of Christopher Columbus.

  • You will walk down the “Calle de las Damas”, the “ladies street”, and through the pedestrian street “El Conde”, were you will find many shops and street sellers, as well as many bars and restaurants. In the afternoon you visit the places of interest outside the colonial city.

  • You’ll take a ride to the east side of the city to the famous light tower “Faro a Colón”, a big Mausoleum rumored to hold the remains of Columbus.

  • You will also visit the cave system “Los Tres Ojos” with subterranean courses of rivers and stalactite caves.

Activities:
  • Today you head down the “Autopista Duarte” through rural areas dominated by intensive farming. Soon the slopes are going uphill the mountains of the Cordillera Central, also known as the Dominican Alps, where many locals spend their summer holidays. Jarabacoa is located at 600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests, rivers, mountains and valleys. Because of the cool temperatures all year round, the area is a Mecca for hikers and nature lovers.

  • You will visit charming Jarabacoa and get to see the coffee factory “Monte Alto”, where you will be told everything about growing and processing coffee beans. Of course, there will also be a coffee degustation.

  • Afterwards and after a short drive and a short hike you will visit the waterfall „Salto Baiguate” which is about 30 meters high.

Activities:
  • Today the road takes you to the lush Cibao Valley, the agricultural treasure of the island. Coffee, cocoa, tobacco, rice and bananas are grown. This area was already heavily colonized by the time of the Taíno Indians. You will pass by the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, the richest city in the country. It is the economic center and second largest city in the Dominican Republic.

  • At Tamboril, you visit a tobacco factory. For several years now, the Dominican Republic has passed Cuba in the cultivation and processing of tobacco. Afterwards you will continue your trip to the neighboring country Haiti.

Activities:
  • In the early morning you will leave to Milot to visit the famous Citadelle Laferrière by Henri Christophe (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The ship-shaped fort is located at 950 meters above sea level and measures approximately 9,000 square meters. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding hilly landscape and on clear days you might even be able to see all the way to the sea.

  • You will also visit the Palace of Sans-Souci, which was the former residence of King Henri Christophe. The castle was inspired by the splendid building with the same name in Potsdam/Germany. The dome of the palace’s chapel "Chapelle Royale" with a contemporary marble altar is still in good condition and gives you a great idea of what it looked like back in the days. Afterwards a typical lunch awaits you.

Activities:
  • Today you will explore the main attractions of Cap Haitien during a guided city tour. This port city was founded in 1670 as Cap Francais by Bertrand d'Ogeron at Manzanillo Bay. Admire the colonial-style houses with their special architectural features. In the city center, on the “Place d'Armes”, you can see the prefecture, a museum and the cathedral with its mighty dome. Visit the cathedral and the main square with its historic buildings and the Fort Picoulet of the 18th century. Enjoy the stunning location and its breath-taking view overlooking the sea.

  • Before heading back to the neighbouring country, you stop to visit the “Fort Liberté“ just before the border. This is one of the oldest towns founded, which goes back to the year 1578.

  • Now you will continue your journey to Montecristi, which feels like a journey through time. The famous English pirate Sir Francis Drake used this region to hide his ships from the Spanish. The 29-meter-high clock is located in the center of the park of Montecristi. It is the only one around the world, which was built into a steel tower. Each one of its sides has a clock face. This clock is very famous because it was built by the same engineering company as the Eifel tower in Paris.

Activities:
  • In the early morning you will climb the town’s landmark, the mountain El Morro. From there you have a great view over the city and coast. Leaving Montecristi, we continue our journey to the north coast, also called amber coast.

  • On the way you will visit the small town of Imbert, where you will have the opportunity to see how local craftsmanship is made of soapstone and ligneous stones. The wonderfully processed stones are sold all over the country. At the atelier you will see the different methods of processing these stones. Afterwards you have the possibility to buy some of this art.

  • In Puerto Plata you will visit the oldest preserved fort: Fort San Felipe. The fort has been built in 1577 to prevent attacks coming from the sea.

Activities:
  • After breakfast you will take a ride with the only cable car up the 800m high mountain "Isabel de Torres" from where you can enjoy a fantastic view over the city.

  • Afterwards, the road leads along the northern coast to Rio San Juan. Once there you will be on a boat tour, visiting the small lagoon "Laguna Gri Gri".

  • Continue to Cabrera. On the way you pass some natural beaches.

  • After Cabrera we stop at “Laguna Dudu”. The park “Laguna Dudu” consists of the two cenotes “Laguna Dudu” and “Pozo de los Caballos”, the horse fountain. The two cenotes are connected with an underwater tunnel. The lagoon has a deep blue colour and it is set in lush vegetation. It is about 22 meters deep and visitors can swing along a rope from about 6 meters into it. It is a spectacular adventure for good swimmers.

  • From here we continue to Las Terrenas located on the “Peninsula Samana”. The peninsula is 63 km long and 10 to 20 km wide. It is a tropical paradise with secluded beaches, clear mountain rivers and sheer cliffs. Las Terrenas is the busy center of the peninsula’s northern coast. Here, you can still feel the magic of the Caribbean.

Activities:
  • Today you hike to the highest waterfall in the Peninsula of Samaná. It has a height of about 50 meters and is surrounded by lush vegetation. On the way you can admire the lush landscape and the dense tropical flora. The waterfall consists of three smaller cascades which fall from a height of 55 meters over big rocks and a green wall in a natural pool.

  • After a long swim break you head back to Las Terrenas. During the afternoon you will have free time to relax at the beach.
