  • Reception and welcome at the airport, followed by a private transfer to the “Zona Colonial” of Santo Domingo. For the rest of the day, you are free to discover the oldest city of the “New World”.

Activities:
  • Today you will get to know the first European city in America. Here you will find the magnificent Cathedral that dominates all others in the Americas, the first monasteries and first convent, the first European fortress, first mint and treasury office, first hospital and first university. You will start the day in the colonial city, a World Heritage Site crowned by UNESCO - the so called “Zona Colonial”. The visit includes palaces, forts, museums, churches and plazas. You will also visit the famous “Alcazar de Colon” and the first Cathedral. A lunch will be available in one of the city’s well-known restaurants.

  • After lunch you will leave the city. You will drive along the famous “Malecon” towards San Cristóbal, the birth city of the dictator Trujillo. The coast curves along the Caribbean to its nominal center, the city of Barahona, an old sugar-processing capital. The road leads through a dry and desert-like area full of cacti and agaves. This landscape is very similar to Mexico. You will reach the provincial capital of Barahona in the late afternoon. From there it is only a few kilometers to your hotel.

  • Drive along a scenic coastal road to Enriquillo, a small fishing village, where time seems to stand still. Soon you will reach the Laguna Oviedo, which contains fresh water as well as sea water. Only a small strip of land separates the lagoon from the ocean. After a short walk along the lagoon, a boat ride will show you the beauty of the nature from another point of view. Discover dry, desert-like vegetation and various species of birds, herons and ducks. The Laguna Oviedo consists of 22 islands of different sizes and vegetation. On a stop of one of the islands you have the rare chance of seeing iguanas in nature. The hike then will take you across the small island through a bleak landscape where cactuses dominate the scenery. Enjoy a perfect view over the lagoon, the Jaragua national park, the Caribbean Sea and the mountains of Bahoruco from a scenic outpost. A second boat ride will take you directly to the biggest flamingo colony of the Dominican Republic. Enjoy the moment when a swarm of flamingos passes by!

  • Back at the coast, your trip continues south. Drive along a beautiful route with breathtaking views of the small port and fishing village Cabo Rojo.

  • In Las Cuevas you will board a boat that will take you on a 15-minute ride through the calm lake to one of the most beautiful natural beaches of the world. The beach of the Bahía de las Aguilas (eagle bay) is located in a national park and its sand is pristine and pure white. The bay is over eight km long. Experience an exceptional coastal landscape with crystal clear water in shades from turquoise to opal-blue that melts into the horizon. Enjoy lunch on the beach, go swimming or snorkeling and explore this untouched ecological and natural paradise.

  • On the way towards San Cristobal via Azua and Bani we pass plenty of sugar cane fields. In San Cristobal you leave the highway and continue through beautiful green landscapes and typical Dominican villages on the way to the small city of Madrigal.

  • Afterwards, we continue our trip to Constanza, a climatic spa town 1.220 m above sea level. Far away from tourists, in the middle of agricultural lands and vegetable plantations, you will get to know a totally different facet of the Dominican Republic. Overall, you will get a good impression of the agricultural industry of this region as this area does not just produce typical Dominican vegetables but also fruits and vegetables more familiar to us. Furthermore, the town of Constanza and its surroundings display much floriculture and, therefore, flowers can be purchased cheaply.

  • You reach Jarabacoa, which is located at 600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests, rivers, mountains and valleys. Because of the cool temperatures all year round, the area is a Mecca for hikers and nature lovers. A lot of adventurous sports are offered here. You will visit charming Jarabacoa and get to see the coffee factory “Monte Alto”, where you will be told everything about growing and processing coffee beans. Of course, there will also be a coffee degustation afterwards.

  • After a short drive and a short hike, you will visit the waterfall „Salto Baiguate” which is about 30 meters high.

  • Afterwards, the trip continues through the lush Cibao valley to Santiago, the richest city of the country. Santiago is the economic center of the Dominican Republic and the second largest city of the country; however, it is far less hectic than the capital. You will also visit a tobacco factory where you will be told about tobacco processing. For several years now, the Dominican Republic has passed Cuba in the cultivation and processing of tobacco.

  • After breakfast, the trip goes to Samaná. On the edge of Salcedo, you will visit the of the “Tres Hermanas Mirabel”. The Mirabel sisters - María Teresa, Minerva and Patria - which fought against the dictatorship of Trujillo were in 1960 cold-bloodedly murdered by Trujillo’s soldiers after visiting their imprisoned husbands. This atrocity shocked the world.

  • Driving through a fertile valley, you will reach San Francisco de Macoris. Cacao is grown here in the shadows of the huge jungle trees. Visit of the “Sendero de Cacao”. Enjoy the unique possibility to learn everything about cocoa on the plantation “Hacienda La Esmeralda”, which supplies world-famous chocolate factories. Enjoy the unique opportunity to experience everything from the harvesting of cocoa beans to processing of chocolate. Of course, you will also be able to enjoy a cocoa and chocolate tasting.   • Subsequently, drive to Nagua. Approaching Nagua, you will catch a glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean. The peninsula is 63 km long and 10 to 20 km wide. It is a tropical paradise with secluded beaches, clear mountain rivers and sheer cliffs. Las Terrenas is the busy center of the Northern coast of the peninsula. Here, you can still feel the magic of the Caribbean.

  • After breakfast, today's boat tour takes you to the national park "Los Haitises". This is one of the most interesting and one of the largest untouched areas of humid tropical jungles in the Caribbean. The excursion leads to the coastal zone of the more than 200 km² comprehensive protected area. Along the coast stretches a huge green mangrove belt and over 50 small islands form a labyrinth of waterways. The surface form is very irregular and consists mostly of limestone hills from 200 to 300 m in height. Over millions of years, the rain has washed out caves here. These already offered protection to the indigenous population and stone carvings prove this even today. Here you will be offered a visit to a cave and a short hike in this impressive national park. The park area is one of the most important retreats of the native flora and fauna. After lunch, continue by kayak. Glide through the tropical mangrove forests. Enjoy the tranquility of this peaceful environment and let nature take over. Kayaking is one of the best ways to explore nature as close as possible and in a sustainable way.
