The area around the Lago Enriquillo is one of the country’s most beautiful regions. The lake lies almost 40m below sea level. The region is hot and dry, but partially also very fruitful thanks to some springs and small rivers.
Several important former Taíno colonies have been discovered in the desert-like surroundings of the salt-encrusted lake.
It is refuge for crocodiles as well as rare rhinoceros-iguanas. With a little luck you will encounter one of these impressive animals. On the Way back, you will have the opportunity to take a dip in the natural swimming basins of Neyba before driving back to your hotel.
